Racehorses vs. Workhorses — Know the Difference Before You Sell a Single Option

Mar 20, 2026

This is one of the most powerful distinctions I can teach you, and once you see it, you'll never look at a chart the same way again.

In the last Market Minutes, I showed you a trade on Astera Labs — selling a call against overhead resistance. That was a workhorse trade. Today I want to expand on that and show you exactly what separates a workhorse from a racehorse, and why it matters for everything you do.

Workhorses are stocks with very clear resistance, very clear support, and a lot of congestion in the chart. They chop around in defined ranges, and that gives you a roadmap — you know when to sell calls, when to sell puts, and where your edge is.

Racehorses? They're running. And you don't want to step in front of a train.

Let me show you both so you can start spotting them on your own.
